Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 22, 2026
Versal is a writing application made by Ting Ting Wei (“we”, “us”, “our”). This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we protect it.
The short version: we never read, train on, or sell your writing. Your manuscripts are yours.
What we collect
Account information. When you sign up, we collect your email address and display name. If you sign in with a third-party provider (such as Google), we receive the name and email associated with that account.
Your writing. Your manuscripts, notes, comments, and project structure are stored so we can provide the service — saving your work, syncing it across devices, and displaying it back to you. We do not access, read, review, analyze, or use your writing for any purpose other than providing the Versal service to you.
Usage data. We may collect anonymous, aggregated information about how the application is used (such as which features are used, error logs, and performance data). This data does not include your writing content and cannot be used to identify you personally.
Payment information. If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment is processed by a third-party payment processor (currently Stripe). We do not store your credit card number. Stripe's handling of your payment information is governed by their privacy policy.
What we do not collect
We do not collect browsing history, location data, contacts, or any information from your device beyond what is described above.
How we use your data
We use your data solely to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve Versal
- Sync your writing across your devices
- Send you essential account-related communications (such as password resets)
- Diagnose and fix technical problems
We do not use your data to:
- Train machine learning or AI models
- Serve advertisements
- Build profiles for marketing purposes
- Sell or rent to third parties
How we protect your data
Your writing is encrypted at rest using AES-256 encryption and encrypted in transit using TLS. Your data is stored in our primary cloud database and independently backed up to a separate storage provider in a different geographic location. Both systems encrypt your data at rest.
We use row-level security policies in our database so that each user can only access their own data.
Data sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information or writing with third parties, except:
- Service providers who help us operate Versal (such as our database host and payment processor), who are bound by their own privacy obligations and only access your data as necessary to provide their services
- Legal requirements, if we are compelled to disclose information by law, regulation, or legal process
Shared documents
When you share a project with a reviewer using a share link, the reviewer can see the content of that project. You control who receives the link. You can revoke access at any time by disabling the share link.
Data retention and deletion
Your data is retained as long as you maintain an active Versal account. Projects you move to the trash are permanently deleted after 30 days, including all associated reviewer records and backups.
If you delete your account, we will delete all of your data — including manuscripts, notes, comments, and account information — from our primary database and backups. Some data may persist in encrypted backups for a short period before being purged through our normal backup rotation cycle.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Export your data (Versal supports exporting your projects as PDF, DOCX, and plain text)
- Object to or restrict certain processing
To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address below.
Children
Versal is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you by email or by posting a notice within the application. Continued use of Versal after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
